For Pilgrims
Ultreia.me is a project to search and map the Caminos de Santiago. You can use it to find albergues, fountains, points of interest, vegan and vegetarian albergues and restaurants, food carts, camping-friendly places, and more. It is decidedly not a Planner, use Godesalco for that, it’s excellent.
It is also a project to share this information with the commons, interacting with OpenStreetMap to contribute back what our users discover, making it available to anyone, here and on any other Camino route planner or mapper.
Find Things
On the map you will find a layer bar on the bottom to switch between map layers:
- Fountains — Over 2,000 drinking fountains with potability information
- Leaf & Shell — A curated list of vegan and vegetarian spots along the Camino
- Points of Interest — Churches, monuments, stamps, viewpoints, and landmarks
- Camping - albergues that allow you to pitch a tent in the backyard
- Albergues — A curated list of albergues (purely those with dorm style rooms, no hotels)
Go Offline
Ultreia works offline. Map tiles cache as you browse — pan through your route while on WiFi and you'll have the data when reception drops. All feature data (fountains, albergues, POIs) is cached locally too.
Using the Map
The map is the heart of Ultreia. Tap any marker to see details. The layer bar aside, you also have a number of buttons on the top right. Use the "Search" button to quickly find a town and zoom to it, and the "Routes" button to restrict display of features to one route (e.g. "Camino Francés").
Supported Routes
Ultreia slowly expands as we survey more Camino routes. Right now, the major routes are in Spain and Portugal. As a community mapping project, we're dependent on community members walking and mapping the Caminos, so we grow as our database grows.
